About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, maintain, and enhance system components for the eLxr Debian-based Linux distribution
- Create, update, and maintain Debian packages throughout the distribution lifecycle
- Contribute patches, bug fixes, and feature enhancements to relevant open-source projects and communities
- Develop high-quality, maintainable software using Python, Go, Bash, C, and C++
- Build and maintain GitLab CI or GitHub Actions pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployments
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Linux user-space and low-level system components
- Document development processes, design decisions, and technical implementations
- Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to support platform integration and feature delivery
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of experience in Linux systems development, distribution engineering, or a related software engineering field
- Hands-on experience with Linux distributions, preferably Debian or another Debian-based platform
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source software projects
- Programming experience with Python, Go, Bash, C, or C++
- Experience developing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or GitHub Actions
- Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals, command-line tools, system internals, and debugging
- Must reside in the Austin, Texas area and be able to work onsite
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, Green Card, is required
- Preferred: Experience with AWS or another cloud computing environment
- Preferred: Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Preferred: Knowledge of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, or low-level debugging
- Preferred: Experience contributing to large-scale open-source initiatives
