About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to environmental consulting projects focused on soil, water, and air quality, monitoring, remediation, pollution mitigation and control, materials management, and protection of species and ecosystems
  • Prepare for fieldwork, procure equipment, and coordinate analytical laboratory sampling
  • Conduct site visits and site characterization, including drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sampling, groundwater well installation, excavation oversight, and remedial system installation oversight
  • Provide emergency response support for train derailments and HAZMAT spills, including environmental sample planning and collection, regulator correspondence, and onsite contractor oversight
  • Write technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda
  • Coordinate tasks, analyze data, develop proposals and cost estimates, prepare health and safety plans, review regulatory and historical files, develop project strategies, manage schedules and budgets, and handle regulatory and stakeholder correspondence
  • Assist project managers with subcontract preparation and subcontractor oversight
  • Develop subcontractor scopes of work, authorizations, and agreements with subcontractors and service providers
  • Manage project budgets and timelines to deliver planned scope within established budgets
  • Collaborate with junior staff and share environmental expertise and institutional knowledge

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of geology/environmental science/engineering
  • 4 or more years' relevant experience in environmental consulting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team setting, independently, and remotely
  • Adaptable, creative problem-solving skills
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred
  • Subcontractor oversight experience preferred
  • Willingness and ability to perform 20–50% fieldwork and travel, potentially throughout the United States
  • Ability to work in Cary/Raleigh, North Carolina, with office and field responsibilities
