About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects
  • Apply physical/chemical primary treatment, biological treatment, membrane treatment, adsorption, filtration, disinfection, thermal evaporation, and crystallization processes and technologies
  • Delegate engineering or scientific calculations/drawings to junior staff
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions
  • Support projects from study phase through design, construction, startup, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of treatment systems
  • Develop and prepare process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables
  • Perform field work, including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, and bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing
  • Assist with system commissioning and startup, including training plant staff
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and at professional meetings
  • Manage projects as necessary to meet client and Arcadis expectations
  • Support business development through proposal preparation and client meetings
  • Travel for meetings, site visits, and other project needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering
  • 7+ years of progressively increasing responsibility in the industrial water/wastewater field
  • Understanding of industrial wastewater treatment systems
  • Experience designing water and wastewater projects
  • Experience preparing construction documents, including mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical reports, and O&M manuals
  • Proficiency in engineering calculations using tools such as Excel and Mathcad
  • Experience developing equipment and piping specifications
  • Experience coordinating within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to early-career engineers
  • Willingness to perform required field work, including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, and bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing
  • Ability to travel as needed, up to 25%
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related field with focus on wastewater treatment process engineering preferred
  • Professional engineer registration in one or more states preferred
