About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate, plan, design, permit, and support management of stream restoration, natural channel design, and watershed improvement projects
- Lead tasks and support project delivery from concept through construction
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Provide professional engineering services during construction, including construction observation, shop drawing review, RFI responses, and permit closeouts
- Perform, lead, and coordinate field assessments, data collection, and analysis
- Conduct geomorphic evaluations, hydraulic modeling, and watershed assessments
- Develop stream restoration design plans, including grading, stabilization measures, in-stream structures, and riparian enhancements
- Prepare and review hydrologic and hydraulic models
- Support floodplain and channel stability analyses
- Lead task-level project delivery, including scopes of work, budgets, schedules, internal teams, and subconsultants
- Support proposals and build client relationships
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting and compliance
- Prepare reports, design documents, presentations, and other deliverables
- Participate in client meetings and stakeholder coordination
- Ensure compliance with Arcadis practices and quality, health, and safety standards
- Facilitate timely and on-budget project delivery
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 4 years of relevant experience in stream restoration, natural channel design, or related water resources engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Biological Systems, or a related field of study
- EIT or PE license
- Experience with stream restoration projects, including field assessments, design, permitting, and construction support
- Project leadership experience, including managing scopes, budgets, and schedules
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff
- Experience working with municipal clients and watershed-scale projects is highly desirable
- Experience with stream classification and assessment methodologies, such as Rosgen methods, BEHI/NBS, or similar
- Familiarity with nutrient reduction programs, particularly within the Chesapeake Bay region
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS is preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Passion for ecological restoration and sustainable water solutions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to travel for field work, site assessments, client meetings, and construction site visits
