About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services supporting large-scale customer journeys
  • Take ownership of delivering production-ready solutions in a small, autonomous engineering team
  • Solve complex technical challenges across the full software development lifecycle
  • Develop modern Scala applications using functional programming principles
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, Product, and Business Analysis colleagues
  • Ensure the reliability and scalability of business-critical services running on Google Cloud Platform
  • Build and maintain highly available services powering customer onboarding journeys across multiple digital channels

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong commercial experience developing backend applications in Scala
  • Strong knowledge of Scala
  • Experience with the Typelevel stack (Cats, Cats-Effect, Http4s, FS2) would be an advantage
  • Experience with Kafka and/or event-based architecture
  • Experience developing cloud-native applications, ideally on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience or interest in Infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Exposure to implementing and consuming APIs
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced growth environment
  • Passion for product and user experience, along with strong commercial thinking
  • Willingness to own code from development to production
  • Familiarity with Test Driven Development (TDD) is beneficial
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills
