About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, implement, and refine commercial loan portfolio management strategies, monitoring routines, and reporting tools
- Oversee portfolio-level risk monitoring, including concentrations, risk rating migration, watch list activity, industry exposure, collateral trends, geographic exposure, and borrower performance indicators
- Ensure accuracy and consistent use of portfolio data, systems, dashboards, and reporting tools
- Provide portfolio performance updates to executive leadership, the Chief Credit Officer, and Credit Administration leadership
- Monitor economic conditions, industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes affecting commercial lending risk
- Oversee and perform financial analysis, cash flow analysis, collateral evaluation, and borrower performance reviews
- Prepare, review, and present credit summaries and recommendations for renewals, extensions, annual reviews, modifications, site visits, covenant changes, and collateral actions
- Review financial covenant compliance, document findings, and escalate exceptions or approval requests
- Oversee annual reviews, site visits, ticklers, financial reporting, covenant compliance, and loan documentation monitoring
- Monitor past due reports, maturing loans, covenant exceptions, insurance expirations, collateral exceptions, and other servicing requirements
- Manage commercial loan modification and change-in-terms processes
- Communicate with borrowers, guarantors, internal business partners, and third parties regarding financial information and servicing matters
- Resolve borrower and member escalations while balancing service, credit quality, policy, and risk requirements
- Partner with Commercial Lending, Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Special Assets, and other stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with Commercial Loan Policy, SBA requirements, applicable laws, regulatory guidance, internal procedures, and sound credit administration practices
- Maintain portfolio management procedures, job aids, and process controls
- Coordinate third-party loan file reviews, audit requests, and portfolio reviews; evaluate findings and lead corrective actions
- Assist with special assets, liquidations, ORE property, problem loan monitoring, and elevated credit administration matters
- Lead, coach, and develop Portfolio Management staff
- Lead onboarding, training, and ongoing development programs for Portfolio Managers
- Ensure quality and consistency of portfolio management deliverables through education, coaching, review, and process discipline
- Develop training resources, reporting tools, workflow standards, communication routines, and team meeting structures
- Perform managerial duties including hiring support, performance management, workload prioritization, staff development, and resource planning
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field required
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible commercial lending, commercial credit, portfolio management, credit administration, or related financial services experience
- At least seven (7) years focused on commercial portfolio management, credit analysis, underwriting, or ongoing credit risk management
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience overseeing or guiding portfolio managers, credit analysts, underwriters, or related credit administration staff
- Experience managing or overseeing commercial loan portfolios in a bank, credit union, or comparable financial institution environment
- Experience with portfolio monitoring, borrower performance evaluation, covenant compliance, risk rating assessment, and credit quality management
- Experience working with senior management, Credit Administration, Commercial Lending, Loan Operations, internal audit, and other stakeholders
- Advanced knowledge of commercial lending, commercial credit administration, portfolio management, SBA lending programs, loan servicing practices, financial reporting requirements, covenant monitoring, and applicable credit, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to analyze borrower financial performance, cash flow, collateral, repayment capacity, risk ratings, portfolio trends, and emerging credit concerns
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet competing deadlines, and produce accurate, high-quality work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, commercial lending platforms, portfolio reporting tools, and related loan administration technology
