About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Create and maintain accounting records for the general ledger, grants, contracts, receivables, expenditures, assets, and inventory
- Process journal entries and reconcile projects and accounts by identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Establish grant and contract accounts and manage billings, invoices, drawdowns, budget modifications, expense transfers, and receivable transactions
- Handle accounts receivable and accounts payable, including travel transactions
- Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and database files supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Analyze financial data, trends, revenues, expenditures, and obligations to project future budget needs
- Follow purchasing and travel procedures for account coding and payment responsibility in accordance with state policies
- Assist management with developing and improving accounting systems, procedures, and automated financial processes
- Provide technical assistance regarding accounting, budget, grant, and financial policies and procedures
- Work with the Controller, Finance staff, leadership, other divisions, management, staff, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university
- 6 mos. or more of Arkansas state accounting experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) when processing accounting transactions through an automated accounting software system
- Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting practices
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and accounting standards
- Experience with AASIS or SAP, entering transactions and running reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level or higher, including experience in creating accounting spreadsheets
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail abilities
- Proficiency in accounting procedures
- OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
