About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and evolve software architectures for payment platforms, card processing, merchant acquiring, and financial solutions
- Design high-performance distributed systems for large volumes of financial transactions, with low latency and high availability
- Develop architectural solutions for transaction authorization, capture, processing, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation
- Ensure scalability, resilience, fault tolerance, security, and operational continuity for mission-critical systems
- Define architectural standards, technologies, frameworks, and software engineering best practices
- Design and guide integrations with card networks, financial institutions, processors, acquirers, and other participants in the payments ecosystem
- Evaluate and propose architectures based on microservices, APIs, messaging, asynchronous processing, and event-driven solutions
- Identify performance bottlenecks and propose improvements to processing, stability, and efficiency
- Participate in technical decisions regarding cloud infrastructure, observability, monitoring, and disaster recovery
- Ensure compliance with information security, data protection, PCI DSS, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Conduct architectural assessments and technical reviews, supporting development teams
- Help resolve critical incidents and complex transaction-processing issues
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Security, and Business teams to align architecture with business strategy
- Document architectural decisions and contribute to the ongoing technological evolution of the platforms
Requirements
What you’ll need- Solid experience as a Software Architect or in technical leadership roles within highly complex environments
- Proven experience in the payments, merchant acquiring, card processing, or technology infrastructure sectors of financial institutions
- Experience with high-volume, low-latency, high-availability transaction platforms
- Knowledge of financial transaction authorization, processing, and settlement flows
- Experience with distributed architectures, microservices, APIs, and system integration
- Knowledge of messaging technologies, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures
- Experience with cloud environments, preferably AWS
- Knowledge of security, observability, resilience, and failure-recovery practices
- Ability to lead architectural decisions and provide technical guidance to engineering teams
- Experience with card authorization systems and clearing and settlement platforms
- Knowledge of merchant acquiring, card issuance, and card processing flows
- Familiarity with financial messaging protocols and standards, especially ISO 8583 and ISO 20022
