About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build production backend systems
Develop AWS serverless solutions using Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge or equivalent
Implement authentication and identity systems, including MFA for customer-facing applications
Integrate third-party REST APIs and create secure hand-offs to external services
Design data models and manage migrations
Test backup and restore processes
Implement infrastructure as code
Maintain observability through structured logging and alerting
Own on-call responsibilities
Apply security controls including secrets management, least-privilege IAM, and input validation
Collaborate with a frontend engineer and potentially unblock or pair on React/TypeScript work
Own production systems post-launch on a small 2–3 person team

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years building production backend systems
2+ years on AWS serverless, including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge or equivalent
Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend proficiency
Experience with authentication/identity systems such as Cognito, Auth0, OIDC/SAML
Experience implementing MFA for customer-facing applications
Experience integrating third-party REST APIs
Experience building secure hand-offs to external services, including signed tokens and avoiding PII in query strings
Strong data modeling experience with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or similar
Experience with migrations and tested backup/restore
Infrastructure-as-code experience with CDK, Terraform, or SAM
Practical observability experience, including structured logging, alerting, and on-call ownership
Security-first practices, including secrets management, least-privilege IAM, and input validation at every boundary
High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required
