About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Undertake research on new fire safety products and systems
  • Work with design teams
  • Prepare fire strategies using code-compliance and performance-based approaches
  • Undertake site inspections and computational modelling
  • Support implementation of fire safety management and protection measures in existing buildings
  • Liaise with fire engineers across offices and support engineers at all levels on projects
  • Produce technical reports covering assumptions, basis of design, methodologies and recommendations
  • Develop project management and client/specialist liaison skills
  • Attend supported site visits when required
  • Complete the graduate training scheme with mentor support
  • Advance knowledge of fire engineering principles and relevant legislation through continuing professional development
  • Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings
  • Support research projects and publish technical articles, conference papers and journal papers over time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical work
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive attitude towards learning and professional development
  • Genuine interest in fire safety, engineering and the built environment
  • Good organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Relevant placement/internship experience (desirable)
  • Familiarity with UK fire safety standards (desirable)
  • Experience with engineering, Bluebeam or modelling software (desirable)
