About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Take ownership of cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, and developer experience
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Manage Kubernetes and GKE container orchestration
  • Manage GCP infrastructure, including GKE, Cloud SQL, networking/VPC, IAM, and cloud security
  • Write and maintain Terraform modules and manage infrastructure at scale
  • Develop Python scripts, automation, and internal tooling
  • Support and evolve the Internal Developer Platform
  • Enrich and maintain the Backstage entity catalog
  • Develop and maintain custom Backstage plugins
  • Build self-service workflows for temporary database access, user onboarding, Jira provisioning, Slack provisioning, and other developer and infrastructure requests
  • Contribute to IDP frontend maintenance and improvements using TypeScript and frontend technologies
  • Enhance and expand Crossplane usage within the platform engineering framework
  • Build tooling and automation to reduce engineering toil and improve developer productivity
  • Create onboarding materials, runbooks, technical documentation, and training content
  • Shape and break down project work around junior engineers' strengths and development areas
  • Act as an informal technical go-to and escalation point
  • Mentor team members and contribute to engineering culture
  • Coordinate cross-team technical initiatives and resolve issues or deliverables with other teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong hands-on experience with container orchestration, particularly Kubernetes and GKE
  • Thorough knowledge of GCP, including GKE, Cloud SQL, Networking/VPC, IAM, and cloud security fundamentals
  • Working familiarity with AWS and common cloud infrastructure services
  • Demonstrable experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines; GitHub Actions preferred
  • Proficiency in Terraform, including infrastructure-as-code standards, reusable modules, and managing infrastructure at scale
  • Proficiency in Python for scripts, automation, and internal tooling
  • Strong understanding of networking and security fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of database administration and database infrastructure basics
  • Familiarity with Internal Developer Platforms and platform engineering concepts, particularly Backstage
  • Willingness to contribute to IDP evolution, including Backstage catalog maintenance, custom plugins, and self-service workflows
  • Confident working with TypeScript and frontend technologies
  • Experience with Crossplane and willingness to expand its use
  • Familiarity with service scorecards and engineering maturity models
  • Experience with GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux
  • Strong experience with observability platforms, particularly Datadog
  • Experience building internal tooling and automation
  • Exposure to compliance-adjacent infrastructure and processes, including SOC 2 or GDPR
  • Experience creating onboarding materials, runbooks, technical documentation, or training content
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and coordinate small cross-team technical initiatives
  • Confident written and verbal communication, attention to detail, workload management, ownership, and cross-team coordination
