About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate heavy plant and machinery for safe and efficient cargo handling, including loading shovels, tug-masters, forklift trucks, bagging plants, and materials handlers
  • Train to operate new and additional plant and equipment, including quayside and mobile harbour cranes
  • Safely move cargo in storage areas, warehouses, and on vessels
  • Assist with weighbridge operation and record and compile administrative information related to cargo movement and handling accessories
  • Work with IT systems and internal and external software packages
  • Perform cleaning tasks and general maintenance associated with port operations
  • Undertake duties supporting compliance with cargo-handling licences
  • Perform other tasks as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Ability to operate heavy plant and machinery, including material handlers, telehandlers, and loading shovels
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Extensive knowledge of port operations
  • Crane-driving experience or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Medical required before starting
  • Subject to random substance-abuse screening and zero-tolerance policy
  • Successful candidates subject to BPSS pre-employment screening
