About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and communicate the product vision, objectives, and desired outcomes in alignment with business requirements and/or mission.
- Develop and maintain the product strategy and roadmap.
- Identify opportunities to address user needs, business or organisational challenges, and strategic objectives.
- Define and monitor product success metrics.
- Engage users and stakeholders to understand needs, pain points, workflows, and desired outcomes.
- Conduct or facilitate user research, interviews, feedback sessions, and discovery activities.
- Validate assumptions and proposed solutions with users.
- Assess and prioritise product opportunities, requirements, features, and improvements.
- Make product-level trade-offs among user needs, stakeholder priorities, technical constraints, and resources.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, business, operations, security, and other teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Communicate product direction, roadmap, progress, decisions, and trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Work with engineering and design teams to clarify requirements, identify risks, and make product decisions.
- Review product increments and provide product-level feedback.
- Support product launches, user onboarding, communications, and adoption.
- Identify and address product-related risks, dependencies, and issues.
- Analyse product usage, user feedback, and other data to assess performance.
- Identify improvements based on evidence and user learning.
- Manage the product lifecycle from discovery and development through operation, enhancement, and retirement.
- Assess whether products meet user needs and organisational objectives.
- Recommend whether products or capabilities should be enhanced, maintained, consolidated, replaced, or retired.
- Establish transition and communication plans for significant product changes or retirement decisions.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Good understanding of product management principles and practices, including product discovery, product strategy, roadmapping, prioritisation, delivery, and lifecycle management.
- Ability to identify and frame user problems and translate them into clear product opportunities and requirements.
- Familiarity with product prioritisation techniques and the ability to make evidence-based trade-offs between competing priorities.
- Ability to define product outcomes and appropriate metrics for measuring product success.
- Ability to conduct or facilitate user research and gather meaningful insights through interviews, whiteboarding sessions, feedback, and other discovery methods.
- Ability to synthesise qualitative and quantitative information to identify user needs, patterns, and opportunities.
- Ability to use product data, user feedback, and other evidence to support product decisions and prioritisation.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to distinguish underlying problems and proposed solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate product concepts, priorities, and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to engage and manage stakeholders with differing needs, priorities, and perspectives.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and build alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate and justify product trade-offs and prioritisation decisions using evidence and clear rationale.
- Sufficient technical understanding to work effectively with engineering teams and participate in discussions concerning system capabilities, constraints, dependencies, and technical trade-offs.
- Familiarity with modern software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery and product management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Awareness of cybersecurity and governance considerations relevant to digital products.
- Ability to understand technical concepts and communicate their product and user implications to non-technical stakeholders.
