About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop software for mission operations, engineering support, internal monitoring, and other applications
Coordinate with stakeholders to define software needs and produce design criteria and use cases
Integrate and test software applications for reliability, functionality, and performance
Develop high-performance back-end tooling for complex workflows and large datasets
Develop web-based and desktop front-end user interfaces
Develop automated pipelines for regression testing, pre-deployment verification and validation, deployment, and patching
Ensure software meets applicable security standards and data protection needs
Plan, design, develop, deploy, maintain, and integrate Astrolab's in-house software tools

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) related field
1+ years of experience with Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and other languages commonly used for software applications
Experience with automated testing, CI/CD systems, infrastructure as code paradigms, and similar modern software development tooling and practices
Experienced software developer with significant hands-on experience designing, architecting, developing, and testing code with little to no assistance from large language models
Preferred: Experience developing human-rated safety critical software applications
Preferred: Experience with mission control or vehicle control software with web-based user interfaces
Preferred: Experience with engineering tools supporting manufacturing workflows, avionics testing, or vehicle integration and testing
Preferred: Experience with software for safety critical medical applications
Preferred: Experience with database backends for efficient handling of large amounts of data and associated relationships with web-based front ends
Preferred: Experience implementing software meeting NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 security specifications
Preferred: Experience with static analysis, dynamic memory analysis, fuzz testing, penetration testing, and other security defect detection methods
Preferred: Experience with NASA or DoD software safety standards and software certification processes
