About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support water resource invasive non-native species investigations
  • Develop and apply risk assessment tools for water company and regulatory clients
  • Support the INNS Service Line through multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Develop and apply emerging approaches in invasive species management, transfer and control
  • Support technical development of aquatic ecology staff
  • Support large-scale INNS and aquatic species monitoring programmes
  • Lead or support ecological input to projects, including field surveys and technical reporting
  • Assist with catchment science projects involving river and wetland function, habitat design, management and restoration, hydroecology, ecological impact assessment, Water Framework Directive compliance and Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Deliver technical consultancy services and positive environmental outcomes
  • Maintain relationships with environmental scientists, engineers and planning consultants
  • Develop technical skills through Continuing Professional Development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience of invasive non-native species with a specific focus on the assessment of aquatic INNS transfer risk
  • Knowledge of programme, resource and financial management
  • A degree in a relevant discipline is essential
  • Consultancy experience
  • Willingness to work towards securing chartership
  • Highly numerate and literate
  • Familiarity with IT and software appropriate to the tasks undertaken
  • Experience of working on large water resource projects as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable
  • Experience specifying, undertaking and managing invasive species surveys is desirable
  • Highly motivated and proactive
  • Skilled at collaborative working, with good interpersonal skills and effective communication
  • Flexible, hands-on and proactive approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Comfortable applying skills in a commercial environment
  • Role may require security clearance
  • Security vetting may require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer
