About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver river and wetland environmental assessments
  • Support restoration and enhancement of aquatic systems
  • Deliver technical consultancy services across AtkinsRéalis core markets and services
  • Integrate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide ecological input through field surveys and technical reporting
  • Support catchment science projects focused on ecological impact assessment, Habitats Regulations Appraisal, Water Framework Directive compliance assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Maintain relationships with environmental scientists, engineers and planning consultants
  • Support winning work from internal and external clients
  • Develop technical skills through Continuing Professional Development
  • Contribute to UK water resource investigations, infrastructure planning and development support, and habitat management and design projects
  • Produce environmental improvements within river catchments in the UK and overseas

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A degree in a relevant discipline with a strong focus on freshwater ecology
  • Good understanding of aquatic ecology assessment procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant UK and EU nature conservation legislation
  • Experience undertaking river and wetland habitat/ecological walkover and species surveys
  • Numerate and literate
  • Familiarity with IT and software appropriate to the tasks, such as GIS, Excel and other Microsoft products
  • Highly motivated and proactive approach
  • Collaborative working and good interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage own time and workload with team members
  • Flexible, hands-on and proactive approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Comfortable applying skills in a commercial environment
  • May require relevant security clearance
  • May require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer for security vetting
