About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead design, development, review, and delivery of electrical system engineering for SMR nuclear projects through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and turnover
  • Act as technical and discipline lead for major high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, AC/DC systems, emergency power, instrumentation, cabling, grounding, lighting, communications, and related infrastructure
  • Lead electrical integration between plant systems, structures, equipment vendors, site utilities, and interfacing engineering disciplines
  • Prepare, review, approve, and technically supervise engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, technical reports, bills of quantities, change packages, procurement specifications, commissioning procedures, and 2D/3D models
  • Lead technical reviews and ensure deliverables meet quality, safety, regulatory, and licensing requirements
  • Support equipment specification, vendor evaluation, bid reviews, technical evaluations, and procurement
  • Coordinate with project partners and electrical equipment manufacturers on design integration and issue resolution
  • Lead and support field engineering, design walkdowns, constructability reviews, installation support, field changes, troubleshooting, and commissioning
  • Provide technical leadership during design, construction, testing, energization, startup, and plant commissioning
  • Support progress reporting, scope development, planning, cost estimating, risk management, scheduling, and project execution strategies
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian and international nuclear, electrical, industrial, and regulatory requirements
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, designers, and technical staff
  • Participate in proposals, business growth, lessons learned, and engineering innovation initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligible for registration in Ontario
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant experience in electrical power systems engineering
  • Significant experience in nuclear, utility, power generation, transmission and distribution, industrial, or other highly regulated industries
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, requisitions, and design change documentation
  • Experience performing or reviewing electrical system studies using ETAP, Dialux, or equivalent analysis software
  • Experience supporting procurement, vendor management, equipment qualification, FAT, SAT, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness activities
  • Experience with design reviews, 3D model reviews, digital engineering tools, BIM, Navisworks, SmartPlant, Autodesk products, or similar platforms is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience with project management, scope development, risk management, change management, and engineering delivery within EPC/EPCM environments is an asset
  • Practical field experience supporting construction, installation, startup, testing, commissioning, operations, or maintenance activities is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, OESC, NEC, and Canadian Electrical Code standards
  • Familiarity with Canadian nuclear regulatory requirements and nuclear quality assurance programs
  • Ability to coordinate with clients, utilities, regulators, reactor vendors, constructors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of electrical equipment and plant design principles
  • Strong technical expertise in MV and LV electrical power distribution systems, AC/DC systems, emergency power systems, and nuclear electrical infrastructure
  • Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and technical presentation skills
  • Existing nuclear security clearance, OPG clearance, or ability to obtain required security clearances is required
  • Willingness to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW)
