About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 and other scheduling tools.
- Establish project baselines, WBS structures, milestones, resource plans, and critical path methodologies.
- Drive schedule performance management through updates, health checks, and compliance reviews.
- Perform schedule risk assessments, delay analysis, impact assessments, and recovery planning.
- Conduct Critical Path Analysis, Earned Value Analysis, and quantitative risk assessments including Monte Carlo simulations.
- Manage change control processes and Performance Measurement Baselines.
- Support extension of time submissions, claims analysis, and forensic schedule reviews.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cost monitoring, financial performance management, and cost-loaded scheduling.
- Monitor expenditures, commitments, accruals, cash flows, contingencies, and cost forecasts.
- Analyze cost and schedule variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Support commercial teams with early warnings, change orders, claims, and contract administration.
- Drive standardization and automation of project controls and cost management processes.
- Oversee weekly, monthly, and executive performance reports.
- Develop and present dashboards covering schedule, cost, risk, progress, and quality KPIs.
- Prepare schedule narratives, milestone reports, variance analyses, trend reports, EVM dashboards, and program review reports.
- Use Power BI and analytics tools to provide data-driven insights and support decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop planners, schedulers, cost engineers, and project controls professionals.
- Act as a subject matter expert and drive capability development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Establish quality standards and consistency across project controls deliverables.
- Serve as the primary interface for planning and controls matters with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Build relationships with project managers, engineering leads, contractors, commercial teams, and clients.
- Facilitate governance reviews, steering committee meetings, and project performance discussions.
- Provide strategic advice and ensure stakeholder alignment on objectives, priorities, risks, and delivery outcomes.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- 12-20 years of experience in Planning and Project Controls within infrastructure, transportation, engineering, construction, or major capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading project controls functions on large, complex programmes.
- Advanced expertise in Primavera P6 and project scheduling methodologies.
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, Earned Value Management (EVM), risk management, and change control.
- Proven ability to manage clients, stakeholders, and geographically dispersed teams.
- Expert knowledge of planning, scheduling, and project controls best practices.
- Strong experience in baseline development, progress measurement, CL31/CL32/CL62 schedule assessments, and schedule health checks.
- Expert understanding of CPM scheduling techniques and Earned Value Management.
- Experience with cost management platforms such as EcoSys.
- Knowledge of NEC3, NEC4, and FIDIC contracts and their impact on project controls, claims, and scheduling.
- Experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, utilities, engineering, or major capital projects.
- Advanced Power BI dashboard development and data visualization expertise.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including KPI development, trend analysis, and performance forecasting.
- Working knowledge of SQL, automation tools, and digital reporting solutions.
- Strong proficiency across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Familiarity with UK, Middle East, and North American project delivery environments is advantageous.
- Experience with Python, VBA, ETL processes, or business intelligence platforms is desirable.
- PMP, PMI-SP, AACE CCP, Primavera P6 Professional Certification, RICS, MRICS, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent professional credentials are preferred.
