About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the successful delivery of active travel projects across Scotland and the wider UK
  • Drive technical delivery of active travel projects and programmes
  • Act as Technical Lead or Technical Reviewer on complex projects
  • Provide direction, mentoring and career development support to engineers and early-career professionals
  • Build, maintain and develop strategic client relationships
  • Lead and support preparation of bids, tenders and framework opportunities
  • Identify and respond to commercial risks and opportunities
  • Develop project methodologies, fee proposals, resource plans and delivery strategies
  • Promote technical excellence, innovation and best practice across the business
  • Support development of design standards, guidance and research initiatives
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and consultation activities where required
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams and support business growth

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Chartered Engineer, Chartered Transport Planning Professional or equivalent
  • Significant experience in planning, design and delivery of active travel infrastructure projects
  • Experience integrating walking, cycling, public transport, green infrastructure and traffic management solutions into complex urban environments
  • Excellent understanding and application of Cycling by Design, Designing Streets, Inclusive Mobility and the National Roads Development Guide
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and coordinating technical inputs
  • Experience managing client relationships and supporting business development activities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable)
  • Experience developing and mentoring technical teams (desirable)
  • Project and programme management experience (desirable)
  • Experience preparing contracts, specifications and procurement documentation (desirable)
  • Experience undertaking public and stakeholder consultation (desirable)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D (desirable)
  • Cycling experience and understanding of user requirements (desirable)
  • May require relevant security clearance
  • May require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer
