About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the delivery of active travel projects and technical work packages
  • Produce and coordinate reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimates
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and technicians
  • Mentor and coach team members and contribute to staff development
  • Review and check technical outputs prepared by others
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders, explaining technical solutions to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support resource planning, programme management and project delivery activities
  • Identify and respond to project risks and opportunities
  • Support business development through networking, bid preparation and client engagement
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to develop integrated solutions
  • Design and deliver active travel infrastructure projects across the UK
  • Support standards and guidance production, innovation and research projects
  • Travel occasionally to other offices or project sites as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Civil Engineering or similar)
  • Chartered Engineer, Chartered Transport Planning Professional, or working towards chartership
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of active travel infrastructure
  • Experience designing and retrofitting schemes within existing urban environments
  • Strong understanding of Cycling by Design, Designing Streets, Inclusive Mobility and the National Roads Development Guide
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
  • AutoCAD design experience
  • Ability to independently develop robust, practical and innovative engineering solutions
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable)
  • Cycling experience (desirable)
  • Project management experience (desirable)
  • Civil 3D experience (desirable)
  • Experience undertaking public and stakeholder consultation (desirable)
  • Knowledge of MS Project and wider Microsoft Office applications (desirable)
  • May require relevant security clearance
  • May require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer for security vetting
