About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Demonstrate understanding of clients' requirements and interact with clients
- Support nationally important infrastructure projects
- Manage project programmes and budgets
- Plan and undertake field surveys
- Analyse and interpret survey results
- Design and coordinate ecological mitigation
- Author and check ecological reports and licence applications
- Engage with other business disciplines and identify cross-selling opportunities
- Prepare bids and support strategic opportunities
- Build internal and external client relationships
- Drive work-winning in the region
- Provide innovation on projects and within the ecology team
- Coach, mentor, and support other staff members
- Work with a mentor and Practice Manager on training and career development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Skilled ornithological surveyor with demonstrable competency and proven experience to capable level in line with CIEEM's Competency Framework to lead bird surveys
- Experience across assemblage and species-specific surveys, with focus on Scottish/upland species desirable
- Experience in survey design and data interpretation for multi-season ornithological surveys
- Territory and collision risk analysis experience desirable
- Experience holding or having held Schedule 1 survey licences strongly desirable
- Experience as an assistant or agent on a Schedule 1 licence favourably considered
- Ability and willingness to coordinate and lead other protected species surveys and produce deliverables in line with relevant good practice guidance
- Full Membership of CIEEM, or actively working towards this
- Strong report-writing skills, including Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Chapters, Habitats Regulations Assessments including Appropriate Assessment, and protected species survey licence applications
- Strong working knowledge and experience of UK Habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, and the Defra Biodiversity Metric
- Project management experience, including technical, financial, and quality assurance aspects, ideally
- Experience working on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and familiarity with the Development Consent Order process favourably considered
- Desire to contribute to team growth and development
- Ability and willingness to travel to sites across Scotland
- Full UK/EEC driving licence
