About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define, develop, implement, maintain, support, tune, and troubleshoot software and hardware infrastructure relating to Linux servers
  • Develop software applications supporting Navy tactical communications systems
  • Maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers
  • Administer Red Hat virtual machines using KVM and containers using Docker/Podman
  • Develop software applications in Python, with Java or C# considered
  • Automate maintenance tasks using Bash shell scripting
  • Maintain source code in Git software repositories
  • Assist with management of network devices, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches and routers
  • Assist subject matter experts with software engineering change requests and software installation documentation
  • Research and resolve software trouble reports impacting application functionality
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense IT system security guidelines, specifically STIG compliance
  • Travel up to 10%

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must currently possess and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Level Security Clearance
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Microsoft Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Programming/scripting languages (Bash/Python/HTML/etc.)
  • Git, GitLab, GitLab Pipelines, Artifactory, Confluence and Jira
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hardware specifications found in desktops, laptops, tablets and servers
  • Strong documentation and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple goals and priorities
  • Self-Motivated, strong work ethic and commitment to quality
  • A passion for learning about, and working in the IT industry
  • Experience with configuration management and automation platforms (Ansible, Chef, Puppet) preferred
  • Experience with Ansible Automation Platform preferred
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes) preferred
  • BS Degree in relevant technical field or combination of education and experience
  • CompTIA Security+
  • 8-10 years of Linux system administration experience
  • 5 years of software development experience using Python, Java or C#
  • Bash and shell script development experience
  • Technical documentation experience
  • Networking and testing experience desired
  • 3 years' experience working with a wide range of IT products
