About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Monitor active resource consents and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and agreed processes
  • Investigate non-compliance issues and assess environmental impacts
  • Develop appropriate enforcement responses
  • Provide guidance, education, and support to consent holders to achieve and maintain compliance
  • Manage remediation activities and enforcement cases
  • Gather and prepare evidence where required
  • Contribute to business improvement initiatives that strengthen compliance services and reduce environmental risks
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve positive environmental outcomes
  • Report to the Team Leader Environmental Monitoring

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Resource Management, Planning, Ecology, Geography, or a related field
  • Strong communication skills and confidence building relationships with landowners, consent holders, and key stakeholders
  • Sound judgement, curiosity, and a solutions-focused approach to investigating and resolving issues
  • Current full New Zealand driver's licence required
  • Must be eligible to hold a warrant under the Resource Management Act 1991 and Local Government Act 2002
  • Experience in environmental compliance, resource management, planning, local government, or a regulatory environment is advantageous but not essential
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required
  • Recent graduates or candidates with some experience in an environmental, regulatory, planning, or customer-facing environment are encouraged to apply
