About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support environmental field operations across varied project types under guidance from senior staff
  • Perform groundwater and soil sampling, vapor intrusion studies, and monitoring well installations
  • Assist with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
  • Develop competency in stormwater sampling, industrial hygiene inspections, and remedial construction support
  • Perform as Site Supervisor/Health and Safety Officer on most project work
  • Apply project safety considerations and follow safety protocols
  • Collect soil, groundwater, vapor, and other samples
  • Support asbestos, lead, mold, radon, indoor air quality, and industrial hygiene inspections and sampling
  • Provide manual labor support to Operations & Maintenance and remedial construction
  • Oversee and perform sampling related to excavations and construction/redevelopment projects
  • Conduct renewable energy reconnaissance
  • Verify public and private utility locates before work begins
  • Set up jobs, complete load lists, and perform on-site work
  • Assist with subcontractor management, health and safety oversight, and paperwork
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for safe operation
  • Identify potential contamination sources at job sites
  • Prepare accurate project-specific field documentation
  • Operate and calibrate sampling equipment, tools, vehicles, and machinery
  • Travel to various project locations, including long-term remote assignments when needed
  • Work approximately 90% in the field/site visits and 10% in the office

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related science field, OR high school diploma/equivalency and some construction or labor experience
  • 0–1 year of experience in environmental consulting recommended
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Introductory understanding of environmental sampling, including soil, water, vapor, and stormwater
  • Knowledge of building construction and materials
  • General knowledge of safety practices, regulatory compliance, and utility locate procedures
  • Ability to follow instructions and assist with fieldwork tasks
  • Ability to set up job sites and handle sampling equipment under supervision
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for maintaining tools and vehicles
  • Ability to document field data and support project paperwork
  • Familiarity with PPE use, including respirators when required
  • Ability to support subcontractor coordination and site safety
  • Successful background check, motor vehicle review, and pre-employment drug screen
  • Current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for driving positions
  • Physical ability to operate vehicles safely
  • Compliance with OSHA HAZWOPER standards, including annual medical evaluations
  • Active cell phone for work-related coordination
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for up to 10–12 hours per day
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in hazardous environments
  • Ability to wear Level C PPE with respirators, Tychem/Tyvek suits, gloves, and safety boots when required
  • Willingness and ability to travel to job sites, including remote or undeveloped locations and overnight assignments
  • Strong visual acuity and hearing to read instruments, maps, documentation, and respond to safety signals
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
  • Mental alertness and situational awareness in dynamic field environments
  • HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, RCRA, and USDOT HAZMAT certifications are beneficial prior to employment and provided as needed
