About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide theory and practical instruction for the EMT program
  • Teach didactic and clinical courses as assigned
  • Develop students’ skills for employment in their chosen profession
  • Supervise students during patient care
  • Deliver lectures, student advisement, and registration activities
  • Work flexible or split teaching shifts
  • Travel regularly between Savannah Technical College campus locations as required
  • Demonstrate appropriate teaching, testing, grading, and record-keeping procedures
  • Maintain grade books and other required records
  • Follow the approved course syllabus
  • Monitor students’ use of supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Ensure safety and security requirements in the training area
  • Attend required meetings
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the EMT field
  • Follow Technical College System of Georgia and Savannah Technical College policies and procedures
  • Perform assignments required by accreditation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of one (1) year documented teaching experience, consisting of at least forty (40) hours of instruction per year in an EMT course
  • Currently certified (NREMT) as an EMT/AEMT/Paramedic
  • Currently licensed as a Georgia EMT/AEMT/Paramedic
  • Level II EMS Instructor License
  • Two (2) years’ work experience within the last 3 years as an EMT/AEMT/Paramedic and/or teaching
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Instructor certification
  • Valid driver’s license and required insurability
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email
  • Knowledge and application of online learning platforms such as Blackboard
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Male applicants between ages 18 and 26 must present proof of Selective Service Registration
