About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide High School Equivalency instruction, including GED and HiSET preparation, to adult learners in a Carroll County correctional facility
- Teach standards-based lessons in reading, writing, speaking, and/or language skills based on individualized student needs
- Deliver instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Use pre-test scores to develop targeted instruction and student learning plans
- Prepare students for post-testing
- Conduct and coordinate student assessments
- Review post-test and practice test scores
- Maintain attendance and assessment records and submit daily data
- Evaluate and document student progress and performance in the program database
- Participate in staff development
- Teach 2–3 classes per week from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, depending on enrollment and program needs
- Travel to other campuses may be required for meetings, training, or professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from a college or university
- Two (2) years related work experience
- Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis
- Knowledge of best practices, rules, and testing needs
- Ability to break larger tasks into manageable smaller tasks
- Oral and written communication skills
- Skill in operating computers and job-related software programs
- Accurate recordkeeping skills
- Organizational skills
- Interpersonal relations and public-dealing skills
- Decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to occasionally lift or move office products and supplies up to 25 pounds
- Ability to teach academic areas including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Preferred: minimum three years' experience in education or a related field
- Preferred: teaching experience in middle, secondary, or adult-level math and reading
- Preferred: experience working with justice-involved individuals or in a correctional facility setting
- Preferred: strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills
