About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Complete face-to-face forensic mental health evaluations to determine competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk
  • Prepare forensic reports

  • Assist outpatient evaluation teams and inpatient forensic hospitals with forensic evaluations
  • Float within assigned sections of the state
  • Conduct juvenile forensic evaluations, including competency and waiver evaluations, as assigned
  • Travel regularly to various areas of Georgia
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university
  • Current Georgia license to practice psychology; license may be temporary, provisional, or permanent
  • One year of experience at the lower-level Psychologist 1 (HCP140) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, pertinent statutes and case law related to forensic psychology
  • Knowledge of malingering assessment tools, intellectual testing, personality assessment, mental health treatment best practices, and ethical/professional guidelines for forensic psychology
  • Completion of the state’s Competency to Stand Trial Certification process within one year of hire is required for continued employment
  • National and state background check as a condition of employment
  • Current licenses enabling practice within the State of Georgia
  • May be required to complete drug screening, TB evaluation, and annual influenza vaccination
  • Preferred: one year of inpatient psychologist experience
  • Preferred: predoctoral internship or postdoctoral fellowship focused on criminal forensic psychology
  • Preferred: five years of post-licensure experience conducting competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility evaluations
  • Preferred: testimony in criminal forensic mental health matters on at least 10 occasions
  • Preferred: at least five violence risk assessments using HCR-20 and PCL-R
  • Preferred: supervision of psychology graduate students, predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, or licensed psychologists
