About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct outreach activities within a designated area to secure gainful employment for veterans, including employer seminars, job search workshops, and job search groups
  • Coordinate with unions, apprenticeship programs, businesses, and business organizations to promote and secure employment, training programs, and placement services
  • Communicate the benefits of employing and supporting eligible veterans and other eligible persons
  • Monitor federal contractor job listings
  • Promote veteran participation in employment and training programs, support services, and educational opportunities
  • Assist with job accommodations for disabled veterans
  • Plan and participate in job, career, and resource fairs
  • Conduct job development activities in the local community to connect employers with qualified veterans and other eligible persons
  • Train employment services staff and service delivery system partners on veterans’ employment and training issues
  • Consult and coordinate with federal, state, and local programs and employers to promote entry-level and career opportunities, training, apprenticeships, and vocational counseling services for veterans

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a qualified, eligible veteran
  • DD-214 is required
  • Proof of being a qualified veteran; attach a DD-214 and Disability Rating Certificate from the Veterans Administration, if applicable, dated within six months from the date of applying
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; OR associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience; OR four years of related experience; OR two years of experience at the lower-level Employment Services Specialist or equivalent position
  • Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), Wagner-Peyser Act, or Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program
  • Four years of experience in employment services, career or vocational guidance and counseling, personnel, recruitment, training, or related social services work
  • Two years of experience serving special needs populations with Significant Barriers to Employment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience delivering group presentations
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations

  • Basic computer skills and ability to adapt to job-related software programs
