About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide Biology instruction in a four-week residential summer program for high school sophomores and juniors

  • Provide instruction in the major discipline Monday–Saturday and an elective area Monday–Friday
  • Attend paid staff orientation and training sessions before the summer program
  • Collaborate with discipline-specific department staff
  • Participate in outside-of-class activities when directed
  • Prepare rigorous and engaging unit plans, syllabi, and course overviews
  • Maintain accurate attendance records
  • Complete other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in biology or the specific content area at the college or secondary level
  • Experience teaching gifted education classes, Advanced Placement, or honors courses, or comparable experience teaching high school-age students in a private or out-of-school environment within the applicant’s field of expertise
  • Significant experience teaching gifted secondary learners preferred
  • Excellent organization skills preferred
  • Ability to provide challenging and differentiated instruction to diverse learners preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities preferred
  • Ability to participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred
  • High level of professional integrity preferred
