About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide intensive daily German-language immersion instruction to high school sophomores and juniors
  • Provide instruction in the major discipline Monday–Saturday and an elective area Monday–Friday
  • Lead supervised individual and group projects involving German-language culture, society, history, literature, current events, and political systems
  • Use simulations, journaling, culturally related activities, text and film analysis, and authentic task-based activities
  • Reinforce comprehensive German fluency through meaningful conversations
  • Attend paid staff orientation, training, and virtual training sessions
  • Collaborate with discipline-specific department staff
  • Participate in directed outside-of-class activities and other Governor’s Honors Program tasks
  • Prepare unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews
  • Maintain accurate attendance records

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of three years successful teaching experience in German or the specific content area at the college or secondary level
  • Experience teaching gifted education classes, Advanced Placement, or honors courses, or comparable experience teaching high school age students in a private or out-of-school environment within the applicant’s field of expertise
  • Significant experience teaching gifted secondary learners preferred
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Proven ability to provide challenging and differentiated instruction to diverse learners
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professional integrity
  • Ability to maintain accurate attendance records
  • Ability to prepare rigorous and engaging unit plans, syllabi, and course overviews
