About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead estimating activities across multiple disciplines, functions, and project lifecycles
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates across concept, FEED, detailed design, and project delivery phases
  • Develop first-principles pricing for greenfield and brownfield projects
  • Prepare cost estimates incorporating labour rates, productivity factors, escalation, assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications
  • Develop first-principles build-ups covering labour hours, quantities, productivity, materials, and equipment
  • Identify, assess, and manage estimating risks, scope gaps, programme assumptions, productivity risks, and resourcing constraints
  • Coordinate estimating inputs across engineering, procurement, construction, suppliers, and project stakeholders
  • Support project handover and early execution phases through estimating input
  • Mentor and guide junior estimators
  • Prepare and maintain estimating spreadsheets, cost databases, pricing schedules, and tender/submission documentation
  • Review estimates for accuracy, completeness, consistency, project scope, and commercial alignment
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating methodologies, tools, databases, and processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum eight (8) years' estimating experience with recognised engineering contractors, heavy construction companies, or engineering consulting organisations
  • Strong first-principles estimating knowledge and detailed quantity take-off and cost build-up capability
  • Experience developing first-principles labour-hour build-ups for structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping, and engineering and design packages
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, productivity factors, labour rates, materials, equipment, and project delivery requirements
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and other technical documentation
  • Proficiency in estimating software and relevant digital estimating tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Estimating, Construction Management, or a related discipline (desirable)
  • Experience with project management and/or project controls platforms (desirable)
  • Experience leading and mentoring an estimating team (desirable)
  • Experience in major capital projects, resources, mining, energy, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects (desirable)
  • Familiarity with estimating databases, benchmarking, historical cost data, and cost reporting systems (desirable)
