About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deliver high-voltage substation primary designs up to 330kV, including layouts, general arrangements, and key electrical diagrams
- Specify and select primary plant equipment, including transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and busbar systems
- Perform engineering studies and calculations covering earthing, insulation coordination, lightning protection, and conductor design
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, reliable, and constructable solutions for utility, mining, and infrastructure clients
- Lead technical reviews and support design approvals
- Provide engineering input through construction, testing, and commissioning phases
- Apply Western Power, Australian Standards, and relevant industry requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- A degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience delivering HV substation primary design projects within Australia
- Proven capability in substation design, equipment specification, and engineering calculations for transmission and distribution networks
- Experience working to Western Power requirements and/or delivering projects for utility, mining, or industrial network operators
- Strong technical communication skills
- Ability to prepare design reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams
- Experience managing competing priorities while delivering quality outcomes for clients and stakeholders
