About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interpret and apply legislation and powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) to support immigration compliance
  • Conduct investigations and activities to locate, engage, grant bridging visas to, or detain unlawful non-citizens
  • Manage referrals of unlawful non-citizens located in prison and remand systems
  • Prepare for and deploy to correctional centres and similar locations to engage with unlawful non-citizens
  • Under supervisor direction, exercise delegations and statutory powers to detain unlawful non-citizens and grant, cancel, or refuse visas
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with field deployments using a risk matrix, tools, powers, and policy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of, or ability to gain an understanding of, the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and associated legislation/regulations
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of determination, adaptability and professionalism
  • Ability to contribute to high-performing teams in a complex legislative environment and high-pressure situations with changing priorities
  • Must be able to obtain working with children/vulnerable people certification
  • Ability to work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide on-call services
  • Ability to undertake domestic travel for long periods of time
  • Some positions may be required to hold or obtain a Use of Force permit
  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Must obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance
  • ABF Workers must obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
  • Home Affairs Workers must obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check
  • An ESC may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check
