About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interpret and apply legislation and powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) to support immigration compliance
- Conduct investigations and activities to locate, engage, grant bridging visas to, or detain unlawful non-citizens
- Manage referrals of unlawful non-citizens located in prison and remand systems
- Prepare administratively for and deploy to correctional centres and similar locations to engage with unlawful non-citizens
- Exercise delegations and statutory powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), under supervisor direction, to detain unlawful non-citizens and grant, cancel or refuse visas
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with field deployments using a risk matrix, tools, powers and policy
- Conduct enforcement action to prevent, detect, deter and enforce breaches of migration law
- Promote employer compliance through employer awareness visits and targeted compliance activities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with visa conditions, employer and labour-hire intermediary obligations, and sponsorship requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Australian Citizen
- Knowledge of, or ability to gain an understanding of, the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and associated legislation/regulations
- Analytical and inquisitive mindset with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication, sound judgement, timely decision-making and interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic, determination, adaptability and professionalism
- Ability to contribute to high-performing teams in a complex legislative environment and high-pressure situations
- Obtain and maintain relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards
- Swear an oath or make an affirmation
- Be uniformed
- Obtain and maintain a valid Australian drivers licence
- Obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications
- Work outside standard hours, undertake regional and interstate travel, or provide on-call services
- Ability to undertake domestic travel for training or other reasons for 1 month+ at a time
- Obtain and maintain a Working With Children Check and/or vulnerable persons check as applicable
- Obtain and maintain a First Aid Certificate
- Successful candidate must obtain and maintain Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance
- ABF Workers must obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
- Home Affairs Workers must obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check
- Some positions may require holding or obtaining a Use of Force permit
