About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interpret and apply legislation and powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) to support immigration compliance
- Conduct investigations and activities to locate, engage, grant bridging visas to, or detain unlawful non-citizens
- Manage referrals of unlawful non-citizens located in prison and remand systems
- Prepare administratively for and deploy to correctional centres and similar locations to engage with unlawful non-citizens
- Under supervisor direction, exercise delegations and statutory powers to detain unlawful non-citizens and grant, cancel, or refuse visas
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with field deployments using risk matrices, tools, powers, and policy
- Monitor and enforce compliance with visa conditions, employer obligations, and sponsorship requirements
- Conduct and direct compliance operations and manage stakeholder relationships and joint operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Knowledge of, or ability to gain an understanding of, the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and associated legislation/regulations
- Strong work ethic and high degree of determination, adaptability and professionalism
- Ability to contribute to high performing teams in a complex legislative environment, including high-pressure situations and changing priorities
- Must be able to obtain working with children/vulnerable people certification
- Ability to work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide on-call services
- Ability to undertake domestic travel for long periods of time
- Some positions may be required to hold or obtain a Use of Force permit
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Successful candidate must obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance
- ABF Workers must obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
- Home Affairs Workers must obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check; in certain circumstances, an ESC may also be required
