About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interpret and apply legislation and powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) to support immigration compliance
  • Conduct desktop investigations into non-compliance with the Migration Act
  • Manage a caseload of persons of interest within the community and criminal justice system
  • Under supervisor direction, exercise delegations and statutory powers to detain UNCs and grant, cancel or refuse visas
  • Lead small field operation teams and warrant teams in enforcement activity
  • Monitor and enforce immigration compliance with visa conditions, employer and labour-hire intermediary obligations, and migrant-worker sponsorship requirements
  • Support prevention, compliance and enforcement activities addressing community protection, migrant-worker exploitation and migration-system integrity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Australian Citizen eligibility
  • Knowledge of, or ability to gain an understanding of, the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and associated legislation/regulations
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of determination, adaptability and professionalism
  • Ability to contribute to high performing teams in a complex legislative environment and high-pressure situations with changing priorities
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain working with children/vulnerable people certification
  • Ability to work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide on-call services
  • Ability to undertake domestic travel for long periods of time
  • Successful candidate must obtain and maintain Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance
  • ABF Workers must obtain and maintain Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
  • Home Affairs Workers must obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check
  • Some positions may be required to hold or obtain a Use of Force permit
  • CV and one-page applicant response document required in MS Word or PDF format
