About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interpret and apply legislation and powers under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) to support immigration compliance
  • Direct or perform as delegate under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) in exercising statutory powers to detain non-citizens
  • Manage a caseload of persons of interest within the community and prison network
  • Exercise delegations and statutory powers to detain unlawful non-citizens and grant, cancel, or refuse visas
  • Supervise operational and warrant teams during enforcement activities
  • Conduct and direct compliance operations
  • Ensure adherence to national processes, legislation, and operational policy
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and joint operations
  • Implement risk, safety, and governance frameworks
  • Monitor and enforce compliance measures related to the Bridging (Removal Pending) visa cohort

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of, or ability to gain an understanding of, the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and associated legislation/regulations
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of determination, adaptability and professionalism
  • Ability to contribute to and lead high-performing teams in a complex legislative environment and high-pressure situations
  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Must obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance
  • ABF Workers must obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
  • Home Affairs Workers must obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check
  • Must be able to obtain working with children/vulnerable people certification
  • Ability to work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide on-call services
  • Ability to undertake domestic travel for long periods
  • Some positions may be required to hold or obtain a Use of Force permit
  • Ability to prepare and submit a one-page applicant response document
