About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, implement and maintain enterprise compute, storage and virtualisation platforms.
- Assist with racking, stacking and connecting servers, network equipment and storage devices.
- Coordinate with partners on cabling and hardware installations.
- Manage virtualisation platforms, including troubleshooting, performance monitoring, capacity management and availability.
- Monitor system performance and environmental conditions, identify and escalate potential issues, and follow standard operating procedures.
- Participate in incident, problem, change and lifecycle management, including the on-call rota.
- Contribute to disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity planning.
- Support the deployment, configuration and maintenance of storage solutions.
- Implement automation and Infrastructure as Code to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Maintain and troubleshoot existing automation processes and participate in proofs of concept for new technologies.
- Work with engineers and other departments through meetings, brainstorming and knowledge sharing.
- Support hybrid cloud adoption and integration with existing Data Centre services.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Substantial experience in enterprise Data Centre engineering.
- Strong knowledge of compute, storage, virtualisation, operating systems and backup technologies.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms and their associated management ecosystems.
- Knowledge of storage protocols, data protection, replication and high-availability concepts.
- Understanding of infrastructure monitoring, capacity management and performance optimisation.
- Experience with scripting, automation and Infrastructure as Code.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and hybrid operating models.
- Understanding of security baselines, privileged access and infrastructure hardening.
- Experience supporting critical platforms in a structured operational environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Typically, six to ten years of relevant experience, or demonstrable expertise appropriate to the role.
- Strong understanding of platform reliability, security, resilience and operational excellence.
- Experience participating in incident, problem, change and lifecycle management.
- Ability to document technical solutions and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous learning, professional development and relevant industry accreditations.
- A collaborative, improvement-focused and automation-oriented approach to engineering.
