About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and manage multiple complex, cross-functional projects from initiation through delivery
  • Lead end-to-end implementation efforts for Laboratory Benefit Management solutions with health plan clients
  • Direct internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery aligned with strategic goals and client expectations
  • Build working relationships across a matrixed organization and influence without direct authority
  • Develop and tailor comprehensive project plans and apply appropriate project management frameworks
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including charters, RAID logs, project plans, milestone charts, WBS, status reports, meeting agendas/notes, and communication plans
  • Deliver project reporting, including status reports and steering committee presentations
  • Coordinate interdependent workstreams such as data integration, clinical policy, testing, provider/workforce training, prior authorization, and utilization management
  • Manage project risks and issues, including mitigation, resolution, and escalation
  • Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving discussions
  • Ensure project activities follow internal policies, procedures, and governance standards
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Avalon’s programs and support requirements gathering and solution design
  • Lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives and develop workflows, SOPs, and job aids
  • Participate in and lead internal projects and cross-organizational initiatives to improve operational excellence and strategic alignment
  • Communicate with project teams, leadership, and clients throughout the project lifecycle

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of three (3) years of project management business/operations experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the health plan, managed care, or benefits management industry
  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of directly applicable work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and with all levels of the organization in a high-visibility individual contributor role
  • Strong meeting facilitation, presentation, and note-taking skills
  • Innovative, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through problem-solving and creative solutioning
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and leading to clarity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate solutions between stakeholders
  • Effective leadership without direct authority
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote
  • Process improvement and documentation experience
  • PMP or CAPM certification preferred
  • Technical (IT) project management experience preferred
  • Six Sigma certification or other process improvement methodology experience preferred
  • Account Management/Client Services experience preferred
  • Smartsheet application experience preferred, including building workspaces, sheets, forms, reports, and dashboards
