About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Python
Build, maintain, and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices
Design and implement robust, maintainable, and efficient software architectures
Write clean, reusable, well-structured, and thoroughly tested code
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver new features
Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data access patterns
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, technical issues, and scalability challenges
Implement security, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and functional tests
Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices
Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
Support CI/CD processes, deployments, monitoring, and production troubleshooting
Mentor junior and mid-level developers and encourage knowledge sharing
Take ownership of technical solutions throughout the software development lifecycle

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software development experience with strong hands-on Python expertise
Advanced knowledge of Python, including object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, and modern language features
Strong experience with FastAPI, Django, or Flask
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services
Understanding of software design principles, design patterns, and clean architecture
Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
Familiarity with MongoDB or Redis
Experience with SQLAlchemy or Django ORM
Understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture
Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows
Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Knowledge of automated testing using Pytest or unittest
Experience with Git and collaborative software development practices
Understanding of application security, performance optimization, logging, and error handling
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
Ability to make independent technical decisions and take ownership of complex development tasks
Good English communication skills and experience collaborating with international teams
Ability to work from the client's office in Sofia approximately 2 days per week
Nice-to-have: Kubernetes, message brokers, event-driven architectures, serverless architectures, GraphQL and/or WebSockets, Terraform, monitoring and observability tools, Pandas or NumPy, high-load systems, Agile/Scrum
