About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Respond to outpatient diagnostic orders from physicians for hospital departments
  • Interpret physician requests for diagnostic tests and schedule single or multiple tests according to patient care protocols
  • Validate medical necessity and handle medical information and medical orders in the health information system
  • Obtain physician orders and information from physician offices for scheduling tests, procedures, and admissions accurately and sequentially
  • Incorporate faxed history and physicals, physician orders, and patient data into the computer system
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with physician office staff, hospital departments, physicians, and coworkers
  • Assist the Manager with technology applications, centralized scheduling dictionaries, online instructions, data integrity, Meditech requests, order entry, and system upgrades
  • Provide the Manager with information regarding scheduling processes, staffing, and customer service
  • Assist with staff orientation and in-services and ensure competencies are obtained
  • Maintain statistical information to support appropriate staff scheduling and customer service
  • Review physician orders and diagnoses to ensure medical necessity and arrange follow-up as needed
  • Ensure adequate information and notification of LMRP throughout the scheduling process

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Science in Medical Assisting from an accredited university/college and/or 3–5 years hospital, medical office, clinic, or hospital business operations experience
  • Ability to work the specified hours and varied shifts
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Compliance with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards associated with CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA if applicable
  • 4–6 years hospital, medical office, clinic, hospital business operations and/or Admitting Department experience preferred
