About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure the safe, effective, and economical use of medications for patients of all ages
  • Prepare and dispense medications and prescriptions
  • Advise healthcare professionals on drug therapies
  • Monitor patient medication regimens and conduct patient education
  • Collaborate with medical staff to manage patient treatments and comply with health system policies and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee pharmacy technical staff and interns
  • Perform data collection, adverse drug reaction reporting, drug utilization evaluation, quality assurance audits, and inventory control
  • Interpret, process, and monitor medication orders for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness
  • Analyze medication therapy, medical problems, laboratory data, and special procedures in coordination with other clinicians
  • Provide timely medication information to providers and healthcare professionals
  • Counsel patients on medication usage, desired effects, and potential adverse effects
  • Mentor students, interns, technicians, and others
  • Coordinate workflow with pharmacists, residents, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students
  • Recognize and communicate issues and assist in resolving variances or unacceptable outcomes
  • Cover 8 days per pay period across four Iowa facilities: Avera Merrill Pioneer (Rock Rapids), Sioux Center Health (Sioux Center), Hegg Health (Rock Valley), and Osceola (Sibley)

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active pharmacist license in the state of practice within 30 days
  • Ability to work the specified hours
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Knowledge of pharmacy standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, federal and state laws, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Preferred: BPS Certification (Board Certified by Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Compliance with CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA requirements where applicable
