About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the primary point of contact for people affected by cancer, primarily through the call center
- Complete client needs assessments and document them in databases and electronic medical records
- Provide oncology nurse triage using the AAACN nursing-process model
- Address clinical concerns and provide education and educational resources
- Make referrals to appropriate resources and services
- Provide ongoing support and follow-up according to protocols
- Assist clients in eliminating barriers to timely, quality care across prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship
- Refer mental health and emotional support needs to appropriate professionals
- Assist leadership with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives
- Assist leadership with data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Maintain current knowledge of local, regional, and national cancer resources and keep the electronic resource database updated
- Collaborate with American Cancer Society and other cancer-support organizations
- Collaborate with Avera Cancer Institute staff, providers, and the broader Avera system to coordinate patient and family care
- Maintain contact with referring agencies, related individuals, and community resources
Requirements
What you’ll need- Registered Nurse (RN) required
- Active license in the state of practice required upon hire
- Ability to work rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to participate in on-call nights, weekends, and holidays
- Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
- Ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Compliance with applicable CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA requirements
- 1–3 years of clinical environment experience preferred
