About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and lead high-performing engineering teams
- Own the day-to-day health of engineering teams and help engineers grow
- Help engineers develop strong habits, communication, and AI-directed engineering skills
- Partner with product and design to move from important customer problems to working software through rapid iteration
- Partner with staff engineers on technical direction, code design, and systems thinking
- Set standards of excellence and lead AI-tool adoption by example
- Run spikes, prototype, and explore ideas while avoiding critical-path work
- Coach engineers on when to trust AI output, when to discard it, and how to maintain code quality
- Challenge legacy software-development processes and encourage faster paths to working software
- Ensure engineers consider customer needs, system dynamics, and reliable production operation
- Report to the Director of Engineering
Requirements
What you’ll need- Track record managing software engineers on teams building full stack web applications
- Demonstrated, substantive use of AI development tools in your own work
- Able to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones
- Qualified to work in the United States
- AI power user with substance and good judgment
- Systems thinker
- Strong writer and compelling storyteller
- Humble, always-a-student approach to management
- Technical enough to lead engineers credibly and provide guidance in code reviews and design discussions
- Familiarity building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant software
- Track record of leading teams through significant shifts in tooling or process
- Concrete examples of changing team workflows around AI
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Brief resume and written or video cover letter required for application
