Key responsibilities & impact

Research legal requirements determining who can vote in different types of elections
Source maps through online research, outreach to government offices, or georeferencing
Create new shapefiles
Test and format files to meet Ballotpedia database requirements
Add election boundaries to the Ballotpedia database and perform tests
Support Ballotpedia’s sample ballot lookup app, which helps voters see upcoming elections for their address
Complete onboarding similar to full-time Ballotpedia employees
Meet one-on-one weekly with a team member to coordinate tasks

Requirements

What you’ll need

GIS experience, including working with shapefiles, formatting, and georeferencing, using tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS
Research and data entry experience
Attention to detail in following instructions
Well-functioning computer with Internet access
Some familiarity with Google Applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, and more) is helpful
Current address included in résumé or cover letter
Résumé and cover letter submitted in PDF format
Cover letter stating interest in the GIS Analyst internship and what the applicant hopes to learn
