About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct original research and analysis on election policy topics
- Develop 50-state knowledge of election administration policies and procedures, including policy changes, debates, and litigation
- Understand when news events require updates to Ballotpedia articles
- Identify opportunities for new election policy articles and analysis
- Build and manage assigned articles according to writing guidelines and quality standards
- Contribute to Ballotpedia’s Election Policy Legislation Tracker
- Monitor breaking news daily and update articles in a timely manner
- Develop new articles in response to news
- Contribute to Ballotpedia newsletter products
- Use and generate complex procedure checklist documentation
- Keep the managing editor informed of project progress
- Learn and apply Ballotpedia’s taxonomy of bias
- Interact professionally with co-workers, customers, and media
- Write neutrally, clearly, concisely, accurately, and completely about complex topics
Requirements
What you’ll need- Passion for Ballotpedia’s mission
- Knowledge of the United States political system
- Personal interest in U.S. election policy
- Professional or academic writing or legislative research experience
- Experience using spreadsheets to manage large quantities of data
- Superb organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively with staff from multiple departments
- Comfort seeking and responding to feedback
- Drive for innovation and flexibility
- Ability to identify and solve problems proactively
- Self-awareness and drive toward constant improvement
- Interest in or experience using AI tools to increase productivity
- Ability to work remotely from a home location
- Computer with Internet access
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Slack, and Asana helpful
- Must be authorized to work in the United States, as verified through E-Verify
- Application requires résumé, cover letter, and neutral writing sample under five pages
- Current address must be included in résumé or cover letter
