About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Research reliable election information sources and conduct outreach to gather official election documents for local contests
Process and ingest election and candidate data into Ballotpedia’s database using automated tools and manual review
Monitor changes to election schedules and documentation
Maintain and improve databases of sources and research processes
Review data for accuracy and completeness and make corrections according to Ballotpedia’s standards
Build knowledge of state and local election practices across assigned jurisdictions
Research election laws and other relevant electoral topics
Identify opportunities and implement workflows to improve local election coverage
Improve access to Ballotpedia’s local election coverage on-site
Promote Ballotpedia’s local election coverage
Report to the Local Expansion Managing Editor

Requirements

What you’ll need

Passion for elections, election and voter information, and politics
Commitment to Ballotpedia’s neutral, fact-based, objective coverage
Excellent research skills
Ability to locate online and direct outreach sources and record information in an organized, concise manner
Resourcefulness, curiosity, and ability to investigate information outside existing processes
Exceptional attention to detail
Ability to understand complex processes and consistently follow instructions
Ability to summarize complex concepts, difficult text, and detailed structures accurately and concisely
Critical thinking skills
Ability to understand varied source structures and apply general categories and logical statements
