Key responsibilities & impact

Develop, test, deploy, and support Python-based applications, reusable services, and APIs for Legal AI
Build RESTful services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI
Develop document ingestion and processing for PDF, Microsoft Office, text, email, and structured or unstructured content
Implement AI-assisted summarization, question answering, information extraction, classification, and conversational experiences
Contribute to Ask Legal chatbot capabilities
Integrate applications with Legal AI vendor platforms using APIs, SDKs, web services, and MCP patterns
Build and maintain AI orchestration workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, or approved technologies
Develop tools, functions, prompts, state management, routing logic, and multi-step AI-agent workflows
Enable AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio and approved enterprise AI platforms
Contribute to retrieval-augmented generation pipelines
Develop Elasticsearch search and retrieval capabilities
Work with relational, document, vector, and graph databases
Apply secure software engineering practices in a regulated enterprise
Develop automated unit, integration, API, and regression tests
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
Collaborate with Legal stakeholders, product managers, architects, platform teams, cybersecurity, risk partners, and engineering teams
Investigate production and non-production issues
Create and maintain technical documentation and operational runbooks
Conduct proofs of concept and technical spikes
Share technical knowledge and contribute reusable components and patterns

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise applications and services using Python
Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django, or comparable Python frameworks
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, modular application design, exception handling, dependency management, and reusable software components
Experience processing PDF files and other unstructured document formats using Python libraries and content extraction frameworks
Experience with document processing libraries or platforms such as PyMuPDF, pypdf, pdfplumber, Apache Tika, Unstructured, or python-docx
Experience integrating applications using REST APIs, SDKs, authentication mechanisms, and JSON
Experience developing automated unit and integration tests using pytest or comparable frameworks
Working knowledge of relational or non-relational databases and application data access patterns
Understanding of secure API and application development practices
Experience with Git-based source control and automated build, test, and deployment pipelines
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile product development environment
Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and AI engineering practices
Desired: experience with AI or Generative AI applications, LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, RAG pipelines, Elasticsearch, vector and graph databases, MCP, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Angular, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, OCR, multimodal processing, AI evaluation, responsible AI, observability, and legal technology platforms
