About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide legal counsel to multiple Front Line Units regarding residential mortgage loan servicing, including custom mortgage loan products
  • Advise on products, services, loss mitigation, workouts, loan modifications, and related legal actions
  • Analyze legal issues and implications concerning consumer banking and wealth management products, services, and regulatory matters
  • Communicate clear, concise, actionable, and business-informed legal advice, including occasionally to leadership
  • Interpret rulings, laws, and regulations from compliance and business-control perspectives
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, including engagement letters, debt agreements, offering documents, and legal opinions
  • Gather, assess, and evaluate information to make judgments or inferences
  • Support responses to government agency examinations and investigations, enforcement actions, private complaints, and litigation
  • Provide legal support for residential mortgage servicing and the wealth management residential mortgage servicing business GCSAG default servicing for Custom mortgage
  • Support client escalations, daily advice, Dodd-Frank compliance, servicing questions, default-servicing legal and compliance matters, and general legal advice

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active Bar Admission in at least one state and good standing
  • Minimum 7 years of legal/compliance experience in the mortgage industry
  • Experience with custom residential mortgage loan documentation
  • Experience with high net worth residential mortgage servicing (desired)
  • Experience with high net worth mortgage lending, including sales, underwriting, products and programs, and client escalations (desired)
  • Familiarity with estate planning trust types, LLCs, LPs, and related title vesting issues (desired)
  • Doctorate degree in a related field
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week on 1st shift
  • Legal advisory, legal drafting and writing, regulatory compliance, and interpretation of relevant laws, rules, and regulations
  • Risk management, critical thinking, decision making, issue management, problem solving, and attention to detail
  • Collaboration, influence, executive presence, and use of policies, procedures, and guidelines
