About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide independent credit risk oversight for Bank of America's Real Estate Structured Finance business across the United States and EMEA
- Evaluate and approve credit opportunities and financing requests originated by U.S. and EMEA Real Estate Structured Finance teams
- Provide guidance on transaction structuring, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory expectations
- Manage risk parameters, guardrails, risk appetite, limits, and risk scenarios
- Oversee credit approval processes, underwriting, structuring, monitoring, portfolio performance, and asset quality
- Conduct credit risk analysis and develop reporting for products and senior management
- Monitor credit quality indicators, industry risk governance, and operational, reputational, and market risk issues
- Identify portfolio risks early and coordinate issue resolution with business counterparts
- Partner with Relationship Managers and Credit Product Specialists on new business opportunities and transaction lifecycle activities
- Maintain oversight of an assigned loan portfolio, including asset performance, market developments, underwriting trends, and emerging risks
- Prepare and present Quarterly Portfolio Review materials covering market conditions, portfolio performance, asset quality, country risk, and portfolio metrics
- Assess credit, market, counterparty, operational, legal, and reputational risks
- Provide policy interpretation and guidance on internal credit standards and regulatory expectations
- Collaborate with Front Line Units and Market Risk, Counterparty Risk, Legal, Credit Review, Appraisal, Compliance, and other control functions
- Review third-party-originated loans for CMBS transactions and participate in B-piece investor due diligence
- Review and approve risk retention structures for CMBS and SASB transactions
- Lead or support policy enhancements, Operational Excellence programs, MRA remediation, market studies, and special projects
- Mentor and advise RESF team members on transaction risks, underwriting, and risk mitigation
- Develop relationships with business partners, provide credible risk challenge, and support responsible business growth
- Interact frequently with senior leaders across Global Risk, Front Line Units, and enterprise partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline; equivalent education and relevant professional experience will also be considered
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in commercial real estate lending, underwriting, credit risk management, or structured finance
- Significant exposure to complex institutional real estate transactions
- Experience with CMBS, SASB, and structured finance transactions is strongly preferred
- Expertise in commercial real estate credit underwriting
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, including cash flow forecasting, debt sizing, stress testing, valuation analysis, sensitivity analysis, and performance monitoring
- Extensive knowledge of credit risk management principles, regulatory expectations, risk appetite frameworks, credit policies, portfolio management practices, risk rating methodologies, and loss forecasting concepts
- Ability to independently evaluate and approve complex credit transactions, identify emerging risks, challenge assumptions, and develop risk mitigation strategies
- Ability to manage a high-volume transaction pipeline and competing priorities
- Ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and execution capabilities
- Excellent relationship management and influencing skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial and risk concepts to senior management, risk committees, and stakeholders
- High degree of professional maturity, accountability, and independent judgment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat and other analytical and reporting tools
- Ability to work first shift in the United States of America, 40 hours per week
